English 302 Study Guide

The final exam covers all material since the midterm--with a special emphasis on material we have studied since the last quiz. However, because of the cumulative nature of this subject, you would be well advised to review the material we studied in the first half of the course, particularly structure-class words (Chapter 3).

The main focuses of the exam will be on the following:

• nonfinite verb phrases (their types, forms, and functions)
• tense and aspect
• active and passive voice
• dependent clauses (their types, forms, and functions)
• sentence types

The types of knowledge you required to analyse the sentences in the Homi Bhabha exercise are representative of the types of knowledge you should be able to demonstrate on the exam.
