Stephanie McCluskey
Introduction
Hello, my name is Stephanie McCluskey
HELLO MY NAME fs-STEPHANIE.
I began my education at Moorpark Community College. There I recieved my Associates Degree in General Education. After graduating in two-years, I transfered to California State University, Northridge. While there, I graduated with my Bachelor's of Arts in Deaf Studies on the Dean's List. I am currently working on a single subject credential: ASL. Currently, I teach American Sign Language at Oak Park High School located in Oak Park. I'm a new assistant coach on the OPHS Boy's Golf team. Along with my amazing ASL II students, we've started the first ASL Club on the OPHS campus.
Educational Philosophy
My educational philosophy starts with a teacher who is passionate about her/his subject and towards children. Many other tools are needed such as; organization, planning a lesson, classroom management, but if you don’t have the passion, it’s just a job.
The purpose of school is to educate. I teach my students a subject and they teach me. Everyday I learn something new about student behavior, achievement, and their perspective on life. I expect them to keep an open mind about learning, so should I about teaching.
The subject I teach (American Sign Language) forces students to think outside of their comfort zone. They learn about a different language and those who use it as well as their culture and their way of living. My goal for each student is to learn the language/culture while enjoying the process. I include many activities/games to engage students. Learning a language can be fun, and I’ll show them how.
