Wiss, MS, RDN, CPT Topic: Hormones and Addiction Registered Dietitan Mr. Wiss is the founder of Nutrition In Recovery, which provides nutrition education, counseling, and consulting to residential treatment centers, outpatient facilities, sober livings, and other recovery environments. Mr. Wiss believes that nutrition is an under-addressed component of substance abuse recovery. Students will hear and get to rub elbows with amazing speakers including San Fernando Valley's representative in Washington, DC, Congressman Tony Cardenas, Seventh District Council Member Felipe Fuentes, and Matt Sharp of California Food Policy Advocates. Event is being hosted by Dr. Besnilian's Dietetic Internship Program. All of the Los Angeles Dietetic Interns will be in attendance as part of their Monday consortium. There is one more weekend of garden build days with MEND!!!! The Garden Project at MEND is in need for lots of volunteers on Sunday, April 13 starting at 9am. Join our team, SDFSA, for this year’s Relay For Life!

Hosted by our Community Service Committee.

In May 1985, Dr. Gordy Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, ultimately raising $27,000 to help the American Cancer Society fight the nation’s biggest health concern – cancer. A year later, 340 supporters joined the overnight event. Since those first steps, the Relay For Life movement has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, raising nearly $5 billion to fight cancer.

Dr. Michelle Barrack-Gardner is an Assistant Professor of Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Science. Her research interests include studying the interrelationships between nutrition, exercise, and bone health in adolescents, the Female Athlete Triad, and nutrition and sport performance.
