As indicated in the suggested timeline of experiences below, teacher candidates in the second student teaching assignment gradually assume responsibility for all classroom routines, classroom organization and management, and teaching and assessing students in all curricular areas for at least the last two weeks of the assignment.

WEEK 1

Observe, supervising teacher teach in all subject areas – respond in reflective journal.

 

Learn students’ names and teacher’s behavior management system.

 

Become familiar with classroom management and weekly schedule.

 

Assess literacy abilities (including English usage) of students.

 

Teach small group literacy lesson.

 

WEEK 2

Teach 2 subjects—literacy and science or social studies.

 

Assess literacy abilities (including English usage) of students.

 

WEEK 3

Teach 2 subjects—literacy and science or social studies.

 

Assess math abilities of students.

 

WEEK 4

Teach 3 subjects—literacy and science or social studies add PE.

.

Assess math abilities of students.

 

WEEK 5

Teach 4 subjects—literacy, math--switch science or social studies add PE.

 

WEEK 6

Teach 4 subjects—literacy, math, science or social studies the arts.

 

WEEK 7

Teach 4 subjects—literacy, math, science or social studies, health.
