Academic Goals

Currently, I am enrolled at csun to obtain my masters in Computers and Technology in Secondary Education at CSU Northridge. Once I've completed that, I'm hoping to complete degrees in Physics and also in Chemistry. After that I am interested in obtaining a masters in Math and perhaps even a doctorate.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Roland Pont and I am teaching 8th grade pre-algebra this year.

I grew up in the Netherlands and South-Africa before coming to the United States in 1987.

I have been married for 26 years to my lovely wife Denise and have three children, Lesley-Ann, Bradley and Graham.

My hobbies are reading, computer games, going to school and vacationing with my wife and kids. My favorite sport is soccer, not surprisingly, and I used to coach soccer to 7th and 8th graders.  I enjoy most sports though and would encourage everyone to play.

Educational Philosophy

I like to teach so students not only learn but so they understand what they learn. Most importantly I teach them to think. I believe learning should be a positive and a fun experience. If some of my enthusiasm for teaching rubs of on my students and makes them better learners and thinkers, then half the battle of education is won.
