| The concept of
Virtual Fieldtrips (or VFTs) have become popular along with the rise
of WebQuests and Digital History. Virtual fieldtrips provide first hand
learning experiences and allow for interactivity and student control
delineated in a student-centered constructivist model. The concept is
simple; if you cannot take a class to a location physically, take them
there through cyber-space. Thus a seventh grade history class studying
the Middle Ages in Europe, could visit the Museo
du Louvre in Paris
and see art from all over Medival Europe without leaving their classroom,
along with descriptions of most of the art collections and their relevance
to the study of history. Likewise, an economics class could take a virtual
tour of the New York Stock Exchange. |
