Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004

Here's a few tips on setting up Dreamweaver.
 
When you first open Dreamweaver, choose the "designer" option..
 
To set up your connection:
 
1.) Open Dreamweaver
2.) At top of window, click "Site"
3.) Click Manage Sites
4.) Click New
5.) Choose "Site"
6.) Choose a name for the site, a.k.a. "CSUN" then click "Next"
7.) Choose the bubble for "no" (regarding server technology)
8.) Click Next
9.) Choose the top bubble for "edit local copies on my machine..."
10.) Click on the small yellow below "where on your computer..."
11.) Find the drive where you are storing your web site ("a" drive for a floppy, probably "e" or "f" for a memory stick.
12.) Find the folder you are using for your web site (the one where all the pages and pictures you created are saved)
13.) Choose this folder (you will see a list of all files inside it)
14.) Click the select button at the bottom right of this window (the window will then close)
15.) You will now see in the text box the path of the file directory you just chose
16.) Click Next
17.) Under "How do you connect..." Choose "FTP"
18.) Under "what is the host namer " type "csun1.csun.edu
19.) Under "what folder..." leave blank
20.) Under "what is your FTP login" type your CSUN login
21.) Under "what is your FTP password" type in your CSUN password
22.) Click next
23.) select "no..."
24.) Click next
25.) select done
26.) In the next window, select "done"
27.) On the right side of your page you will see a small window showing your public_html folder on the CSUN server...
28.) In this window you will see a button on the far right which will display "expand/collapse" when you click on it. It looks like two white boxes with an arrow pointing to the right
29.) Click this button
30) You will now see a list of your local files (on your computer) and "remote files" on the CSUN server
31.) Click and drag the files you want to upload to the opposite side as needed
32.) To close this window and go back to editing, click the "X" at the top right hand corner of the window
 
When you open Dreamweaver in the future, make sure the disk with your web site is loaded beforehand. (Dreamweaver looks for it as it loads).
 
Also: When you open the program, you will see the connection window on the right hand side of the page. It will display "click this button to display remote files"...Do this in order to connect to CSUN so you can upload files. (Dreamweaver does not automatically log into your CSUN account when it starts...but it DOES save all your account information including user name and password.)
