Should society recognize gay marriages?

Resources used to support "yes"

To answer the question of why gay and lesbian couples should have the right to marry, we must first answer the question of why we value the institution of marriage in our society. Today, America needs strong marriages more than ever, and denying gay an d lesbian couples the right to marry, no longer makes sense. The struggle for legal marriage in America by homosexuals has been mounted primarily by individuals--mostly couples--since 1971. Yet no major organization seriously pursued legal marriage until 1994. Same-sex couples deserve laws protecting the sancticity and intimacy of their relationships. Same-sex marriages should have the same respect and the same legal standing as traditional marriages.
