1.What is your definition of creativity?
I believe that creativity is freedom from conformity. True creativity allows you to express who you are at the core and not conform to any preset standards or ideas.

    2. Who do you think is creative? Please explain why.
Writers, photographers, artists, musicians, singers…all these people have creativity because they are free to express themselves. I think it would be very difficult to call an accountant creative, because they have preset rules; they have a certain way of doing things. If they go outside the rules, they can have a balance sheet that’s incorrect. On the other hand, a photographer can overexpose a picture and it’s still beautiful.

    3. Was the way you express your creativity now always your ambition? If so, when did you know for sure?

Photography wasn’t always my ambition. I always loved it but never considered going to school for it. I start taking pictures when I was 16. I graduated with a degree in Marketing. During my last semester of college I took a photography class. But even then I did not consider it an ambition.
I knew for sure about six months after I graduated. I couldn’t find a job in my field. As I went on interviews, I knew that wasn’t the life I wanted to live. So, I set up a dark room in the dining room of my apartment. It was then that I realized my love for photography. Someone also asked me “If you would do anything without being paid, simply because you love it, what would it be?” My answer was photography.

    4. When embarking upon a project, do you preplan your entire endeavor or do you simply follow where your inspiration takes you?

I try not to plan because sometimes that takes away the creativity. Most of my creativity comes from boredom or it’s purely accidental.
Now if I had to do a shoot for someone I would definite have a location in mind, but I would want to person to be as natural and free as possible.

    5. What do you think keeps your imagination from conforming to mainstream society? Please explain.

Seeing the bigger pictures keeps me from conforming. Even when I was a child I never saw myself having a typical job or a typical life. Cubicles scare me. 8 to 5’s are depressing. Some people weren’t born to fit in a box. I’ve tried that life and its numbing. It feels like the real you is slipping away as you wait for your one hour lunch.
That numbing feeling is what keeps me from conforming. I want to feel alive even if I have very little money because I’m only waiting tables. But that’s where your faith comes in. You know that you are doing it for a greater purpose. You know that your sacrifice of a normal life will bring light and joy to another. And it will be because of something you produced; something that came from your mind.

    6. What do you intend to achieve through your work?
I want my work to educate. There are so many facets of life that many American are ignorant of. My ultimate achievement would be exposing the living conditions of people outside America. My dream is to photography life in Africa as honestly as possible. No pretty pictures of safaris and rain forest... but real pictures of famine and disease. I will produce pictures of people who have no living parents and no medical care. I want my pictures to convey emotion. I want people to look at my work and actually feel something. I want them to know how blessed they are.

    7. Who or what has helped you to persevere and not quit?

Faith and God. My faith allows me to believe that God has a calling on my life. I feel like that calling is helping others. Faith helps me believe that although I have minimal resources (money), I can make a difference one day. That’s the only thing that keeps me craving this art. I know God will allow me to touch lives through my art. What I do not know is when.

    8. Do you ever do something special to prepare for expressing your creativity? Please explain.
I really don’t do anything special to prepare. I just moved to California 8 months ago. My networking is almost non-existent. Survival is my first plan.

    9. Are you ever afraid or concerned about being judged by others or worried about how your creativity is perceived?

I don’t worry about how I’ll be perceived. You’ve got to be true to yourself. If you’re not, then your art is a lie. I think honest art is beautiful art.

    10. What is your best advice for someone interested in your field?
Work as much as possible to be better. Even if it means you work for free. All it takes is one person to see your drive and commitment. Also, don’t be so easily discouraged. Believe that what you’re doing is divine.

I feel honored to do this for you. And yes I would love the web address. Good luck on your project
