Paper Assignment #2 -- Argumentation/Research

.

For your argumentation paper, I would like you to write a letter espousing the need to reduce global warming. Please quote/borrow information from Al Gore’s film, An Inconvenient Truth (cite your sources!).

Before you begin writing, you will need to determine your target audience. To whom will you address your letter? You will need to select a specific audience and frame your argument to include specific ways that your audience can lessen its effect on global warming. Possible audiences include, but are not limited to, a politician (the President or Congress), an industry executive (oil, automobile, manufacturing appliances or products, agriculture), or a corporation executive (Microsoft, Apple, Sony).

Here are the points you will need to address in your letter:

1. Determine how your audience contributes to global warming. Point out how your audience pollutes, wastes, and/or damages/destroys natural habitats (you will need to research facts!). Argue how your audience’s actions (or lack thereof) have led to an increase in the world’s temperature and/or have had a negative impact on our eco-system.

2. Suggest environmentally-friendly solutions for that audience to reduce carbon emissions and global warming. Argue for changes in law or in the ways of manufacturing and consumption.

3. Inform your audience on how to create a positive impact upon the environment. Give your audience some suggestions to go above and beyond the call of duty! Predict consequences of non-action and action.

The Argumentation Paper must be at least 750 words in length and and double-spaced! At least two drafts are required for this paper - see schedule for due dates. Good luck and have fun!
