1st Creative Mind Interview Continued

5) What is playing in your cd player, ipod, or mp3 player right now?

I'm ashamed to admit, I've been going through a bit of a classic rock renaissance lately because of playing "Rock Band." So, on my song cue right now is packed lots of "Boston," "Journey" and "The Who" along with some of my other faves like "Foo Fighters," "Red Hot Chili Peppers," "Me First and the Gimme Gimmes" and some smatterings from groups like "Moldy Peaches" and "Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs." I guess it's all over the place!

6) If you had 24 hours to live, how would you spend your day?

Dang! It's like an episode with Jack Bauer! After killing terrorists and saving the world from nuclear disaster, I guess I would kick it with my family and friends as much as possible and try to get the high score in "Rock Band."

7) Are you a fan of cartoons? If so, which is your favorite one?

I live and breathe cartoons! It's hard to single out individual ones since I like so many for different reasons. I love "Sponge Bob Square Pants" because it's just so funny and whacky! I love " South Park " for its unapologetic satire of all things. I love "The Family Guy" for just sheer random humor and great comedic timing. "Ren & Stimpy" for taking it too far. Going old school, I LOVE 80's cartoons like "Transformers," "G.I. Joe," "Thundercats," "Silver Hawks," and "Super Friends" (any super hero cartoon!) for all the action and adventure. I love "Gummy Bears" for the mythology of their story. I love the old Warner Brothers shorts for their endearing and memorable characters.

If we're describing "cartoons" in a broader animation sense, then movie wise, you just can't get any better than Pixar movies like "Toy Story 1 & 2," "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille." Perfection in film form! I'm also a voracious fan of Japanese animated shows and movies like "Evangelion," "Giant Robo," "Akira," "Fooley Cooley" and " Tokyo Godfathers." This is a Pandora's Box of questions for me! There's just too many!

8) How do you know when a piece of work is finished, and needs no additional work?

There's an old saying that goes "movies aren't finished - they're abandoned." There's always something to nip and tuck, some scene that needs editing, some asset that needs re-drawing, some sound that could use a little bit of extra zing or some animation that could use more smoothing... so, really, it's never truly "finished." Of course, if this were the case we would never get anything done so it's my job as the Director to decide when we "abandon" a project. It's definitely part of the discipline to know when you've done all that you could with the given time and money and trust that all your work and decisions will pay off once that work steps out the door and goes meets the real world for the first time. They grow up so fast... sniff... sniff...
