Assignment #6 Interview with a creative genius

Below is a copy of my interview with a creative genius. I chose  her work because it was innovative, fresh and had a unique style.  Check out her website.  http://www.makeupbyelizabeth.com

Hello Opal,

I would be happy to answer these questions.  I have done things like
this before for students.  One high school student created a monster
for her class.

1.  I did artwork from childhood.  I loved doing makeup when I was a
teenager.  I took theatre makeup class when I was 28 at the junior
college in Northern California.  Then I came to Los Angeles to work in
the industry.  I took classes in makeup for film and television here in
order to achieve that goal.

2.  Yes, I can teach what I do.

3.  Inspiration is all around us.  Plants, animals, nature, art, music,
theatre, film, dance, poetry, love.

4.  When I go to a regular makeup job, I just "do it".  I have done
makeup for so long, it just comes out through my fingers.  If I have a
creative assignment, I look at art books, go to the museum, do research
and meditate.

5.  My favorite accomplishments are probably my body art pieces.

6.  On my body art page there is a face with chinese characters.  It is
actually a love poem by the great poet Lao Tsu.

7.  I enjoy sharing my work with others.  It seems to give people a bit
of happiness and sometimes inspiration.

8.  When I get a strong, good reaction to my work, naturally I want to
get more of that.  So, I might do some more of that kind of thing.

9.  There are so many amazing artists in so many creative fields.
There are 2 inspirational movies that I like.  One is "La Belle y Le
Bete" by Jean Cocteau and "Koyanisquatsi" (sic?).  The first one is a
magical fairy tale from 1953 in black and white before computer special
effects.  The other is images from around the world that are poignant,
bigger than life and shot with a specially made lense that makes you
feel that you are right there.  See them.  You will be changed.

10.  If my creative work were edible it would taste like a chocolate
eclair with whipped cream filling.

Good luck with your education.

Blessings,

Elizabeth Dahl
