AA570 — San Francisco, CA

Background:

SAFER is a membership-based organizing project of Communities for a Better Environment (CBE). SAFER is made up of Asian, African American, Latino, and White descent that live and work in neighborhoods and benefit and use Bay resources. SAFER believes that only by working together can we then organize to confront the threat of toxic pollution and create power for our communities. SAFER believes that all people regardless of race, ethnicity, language, education, sex, income level and immigration status have the right to organize for a clean, safe and healthy environment.


Project Description:

To assist with outreach in Southeast San Francisco community via presentations and/or door to door on issues related to the redevelopment of the shipyard and known dioxin sources. The goal of the outreach would be to bring together members of the community in an event or meeting to discuss issues and possibly develop a plan. The BACI intern would assist other partners from the community with the organization and supervision of volunteers for this event.


Qualifications:

Familiarity with computers (MAC). Desire and strong Concern to fight against racism, social and environmental injustice in the Bay Area. Strong Aptitude to learn and work with a culturally and economically diverse staff and constituency. Bilingual (Spanish, Chinese) preferred


Terms:

Position 2


AA578 — Indio, CA

Sponsored by Native American Organization


Description:

The Sponsor is a Native American Organization working to develop alternatives to their current entertainment business. Through the development of an ECO Industrial Park the organization sees one way to ensure that the tribe is diversified in its investments and opportunities. Currently there are two businesses already on the site, a tire recycling plant and a power plant producing energy from green waste. The intern would assist in identifying and marketing to businesses who may be interested in locating/relocating to the park. The intern will also be given the opportunity assist the CEO on tasks related to clean up of the Salton Sea as well as other activities as they develop.


Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Physical Science, Planning or related field . Good communication skills, written and oral, and Ability to work on multiple tasks. good computer skills. Spanish desired. Must be a US Citizen Drivers License required.


Terms:

Full-Time; 6-12Months; Up to $800/wk DOE; Start Date: ASAP; Deadline to Apply: Open Until Filled
