»Alex Iles
Alex Iles is a free-lance trombonist and educator living in Los Angeles where he is currently a jazz trombone instructor at the California State University, Northridge. Alex has also taught trombone and low brass at California State University Long Beach and the California Institute of the Arts.
Among the wide array of artists with whom Alex has performed and/or recorded include: Michel Legrand, Joe Cocker, Henry Mancini, The Tonight Show, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Johnny Mathis, the Pacific Symphony, Natalie Cole, Harry Connick Jr. and Prince. He has also performed on The Emmy Awards, The People's Choice Awards, and numerous television series [including "JAG, "Northern Exposure", and "Seinfeld"], animated series [including "Animaniacs", "Futurama", and "Family Guy"], and motion picture soundtracks [including "Blackhawk Down", "The Majestic" and "Planet of the Apes"].
Alex has toured as lead and solo trombonist with the Woody Herman and Maynard Ferguson big bands [with whom he has recorded twice]. He has also performed and recorded with many of the top big bands and jazz groups in the L.A. area including Bob Florence's Limited Edition Big Band, Gerald Wilson Orchestra, Bob Curnow LA Big Band, Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band and The Tom Kubis Big Band.
Besides his teaching duties at CalArts and CSUN, Alex appears frequently as a guest soloist and clinician for schools and organizations throughout the United States, including UCLA, Cal State Fullerton, the Disneyland Collegiate All Stars and he is a jazz clinician for the Disney Magic Music Days Program.
In summer of 2001, Alex was invited out of an international field to participate in a 10 day trombone seminar hosted by virtuoso and principal trombonist with the New York Philharmonic, Joe Alessi.
