Interview with a Creative Genius

It was no accident meeting this creative genius, after all I believe all things have a purpose. About two months ago I began to develope my own endevours in my passion for photography. In my craze of gathering information, meeting new artists and exploring the local art scene. I was introduced to a friend of a friend, Kaleb Higgins who is also an incredible artist. He informed me of a web site called DeviantArt.com and gave me a few names of artist I should check out. Which lead me to find my creative genuis, Brandon Olterman. Brandon's art is a mix of wit, immense imagination and sure talent that only a genius can translate onto paper. It was soon after seeing his work online that I contacted him. He was kind enough to take time and meet me one on one to do my interview.

Q- What was the biggest opposing force that you encountered on your creative journey?

A- I used to do comic strips all through college and I submited them to get published, but they never got picked up. It really bummed me out too much because I know its part of the process, but overall I'd say it had a lot to do with me losing interest in comics and being creative in other areas.

Q- If you could interview a creative person (past or present), who would that person be? Please explain.

A- I would say definitely Winsor McCay. He did the 'Little Nemo' comic strips in 1905. He was a huge innovator in annimation. I would like to ask him this question your asking me and find out more about him rather than reading a biography ( because I hate reading (insert laugh)).

Q- Do you critique your own work? Explain.

A- There's definitely one's I like better than the other's. If the finish product is what I intended it to be I keep it, if not I p$#@ all over it (insert laugh).

Q- What kind of jobs did you have before your career took off?

A- When I was eight years old I use to build fences and mix cement for $5 a day, which taught me good ethics. But that was before I moved to L.A.. Where I got a job as a door to door sales man updating people's Verizon phone lines. And now I am a graphic designer.

Q- What is creativity to you? Do you consider yourself to be creative? Why or why not?

A- Umm....Yes, I suppose..( insert laugh) Creativity..hmm...it's taking an idea and expressing it in your own way.
