Aerial Photograph Collection


The Geography Map Library contains over 5,000 contemporary and historical aerial photographs. The collection's emphasis is on the San Fernando Valley with additional coverage of Los Angeles County along with various Orthophotoquads for a number of states.

ORTHOPHOTOQUADS: These aerial photographs were taken in the early 1970's as part of a cooperative program between the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and other Federal agencies. The scale for most orthophoto-quads is 1:24,000 the same as the scale for 7.5 minute topographic maps. They are printed in black and white, and without contours. The Map Library collection holdings include coverage of the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
