Faculty Bios

Gerard L. Rossy (Ph.D., 1979, UCLA), Department Chair, teaches strategic management, management of technology and innovation. His research and consulting interests include strategic management, innovation, project management, and the entertainment industry.

C. Murat Alpaslan (Ph.D., 2004, University of Southern California) teaches strategic management. His research focuses on stakeholder theory, business ethics, crisis management, rhetorical theory, and the philosophy of organizational science.

John M. Bruton (Ph.D., 2003, University of Massachusetts) teaches strategic management and international management. His research interests include organizational processes and strategy in nonprofit organizations. His recent research examined the characteristics of organizations promoting the peace process in Northern Ireland.

Daniel Degravel (Ph.D., 1994, Pierre Mendes-France University, Grenoble, France) teaches and has corporate experience in the fields of Strategic Management and Human Resources Management. His research interests include the management of competencies in the firm, organizational structure and top-management analysis.

Alan M. Glassman (Ph.D., 1969, SUNY at Buffalo), teaches organizational change and development, and organizational behavior. His research areas include public sector change, and public sector/nonprofit strategic planning.

Phil Gorman (Ph.D., 1998, University of Illinois) teaches in the area of strategic management, and management of technology. His main areas of research are linkages between human resources and product innovation, competitive dynamics, and entrepreneurship.

Robert W. Hanna (Ph.D., 1975, UCLA) teaches courses in the areas of management, organization behavior, organizational development, and strategic management. His consulting and research focus on management training and development, leadership and influence, and team development.

Richard A. (Denny) Kernochan (Ph.D., 1997, USC) teaches strategic management and is responsible for the Business Honors Symposium. His research and consulting focuses on strategy implementation, strategic management and organization theory.

Nancy B. Kurland (Ph.D., 1993, University of Pittsburgh) teaches management skills. She researches the social implications of water management, stakeholder theory, and organizational storytelling, and has previously explored ethics and incentives, telecommuting, and gossip.

Mingfang Li (Ph.D., 1990, VPI&SU) teaches strategy, international management, management, and organization theory. His research focuses on organization-environment relations, top management, strategy-making, and strategy-performance relationship in different contexts.

Donald W. McCormick (Ph.D., Case Western Reserve University, 1984) teaches courses in organizational behavior. His research focuses on mindfulness in the workplace; management education; and spirituality and religion in the workplace. His consulting practice focuses on management and leadership development in the financial services industry.

Rex C. Mitchell (Ph.D., 1963, U. of Utah; Ph.D., 1981, UCLA) teaches, consults, and does research in the areas of strategic management, organizational development, and organizational behavior - particularly dealing with leadership, power, decision making, creativity, and conflict management.

Richard W. Moore (Ph.D., 1981, UCLA) teaches in the areas of organizational behavior and management theory. He has extensive international experience in training policy and economic development. He is also an active consultant in the pay television industry.

Lois Shelton (Ph.D.,1985, Harvard) teaches strategic management. Her main areas of research include strategies for high technology companies, high growth new ventures, and women and minority entrepreneurs.

Deone Zell (Ph.D., 1994, UCLA) teaches in the areas of management, organizational behavior, organizational change and development, and organization theory. She conducts research and consults in the areas of organizational learning, alignment, and innovation in the public and private sectors.

Kiren Dosanjh Zucker (J.D., 1989, University of Michigan Law School) teaches, and consults in Employment Practices. Her research focuses on effective organizational responses to the increasing liability faced by employers. She holds a joint appointment with the Department of Business Law.
