Software and CD ROM: General Course Description:

This course is designed to give students who plan to visit China a basic grasp of the Chinese language.  The beginning of the class will focus on basic instruction on the use of the Chinese pronunciation and grammar systems in order to enable students to put together sentences and phrases by themselves.  Students will practice conversing in Chinese in common situations.  Emphasis will be placed on knowing Pinyin, the "four tones", and useful expressions and conversation for travelers. The class will use speaking and listening comprehension, daily dialogues and phrases with cultural notes to strengthen the students' Chinese abilities. Students are also encouraged to practice speaking and listening in Chinese online.  I hope that these activities will make the class an enjoyable learning experience and I aim to help students develop further communication skills in Chinese, as well as demonstrate the possibilities of using simple language to communicate more meaningfully and extensively with others.    My goals are to have students proficient in the Chinese language (after the 20 week training) for their trips to China and to establish the building blocks of the language for any future education in Chinese.
