Objective:

The general objective of the Intermediate Mandarin Chinese course is to continue the Elementary Mandarin Chinese and to improve the skills  in the Chinese language.
In this semester, students are expected to learn more topics for conversation.  They are also required to develop further reading and writing abilities.   About 8 lessons will be covered in this semester. The number of characters students will  be expected to learn are approximately 200.   Chinese word processing ability is one of the objectives of this course.  Students will learn to type Chinese texts using  the Pinyin input method.
The class time will be used for instructor's lecturing and students' activities including listening, speaking, reading and writing.   In order to practice the target language in real life, we will experiment practicing Chinese in the Chinese communities. The activities will include class activities, interviews, workshops in the language lab and Chinese movies. The students will make the questionnaires, which guide them to observe the social and cultural behaviors. After the site visits and interviews, the students will share their findings, conclusions and comments in the class. It is my hope that after fifteen weeks of training, the students will have not only learned the traditional four basic abilities in the Chinese language, but also Chinese culture. Therefore, the objective of this course will be the following:
