Semester Project Prepare a paper and oral presentation (using presentation graphics) on an energy-related topic of your choice. This can be a broad topic (e. g. comparing several forms of energy) or a very narrow project analyzed in detail (e. g. current status and lessons learned from the implementation of the hydrogen highway in California). The written paper should be prepared with a word processor and the overall length should be between 2500 and 5000 words (10 to 20 pages). The quality of the writing and the logic of your paper are more important than the overall length. The length of the oral presentation will depend on the number of students presenting. Typically the individual presentations about 10 to 15 minutes including time for set up and questions. The first step in the semester project is the submission of a proposal for your paper. This should be about one page and should give the instructor a good overview of what you intend to do for your project. Once your proposal is approved, you can proceed with the project. If you want to change your project based on subsequent research, you can do so by submitting a revised proposal. The oral presentations will be done on the last three nights of class. The schedule for these presentations will be done to match student preferences as much as possible. All students will evaluate the presentations of other students. These evaluations will be submitted at the end of each night of presentations. Students should submit their presentation graphics at the time of their presentation. The written report is due by 11:59 pm on Monday, May 11, the Monday of final exam week. |
