The BAW LC is a dedicated language learning resource center utilized by students, staff and faculty for the purposes of language acquisition. We support all the languages taught in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures and offer audio, video, electronic and text resources for both instructors and students. The full catalogues are available for viewing at the front desk.
Inside the Language Center you will find four working areas: the common area and front desk, the Satellite Viewing Room, the Drop-In Computer Lab and the Instructional Computer Lab.
The Common Area and Front Desk
The common area is the main room of the Language Center, and is home to the front desk, where student assistants are always available to answer questions and check out equipment. In addition to the front desk, the common area also houses a large conference table and several laptop stations for students and faculty to plug-in their equipment.
The Satellite Viewing Room (316-C)
For those students and faculty who wish to watch a film from our comprehensive international film archives, there is a Satellite Viewing Room with a large LCD flat screen television and several comfortable chairs. The Satellite Room is available on a first-come, first-served basis but can be reserved by faculty for specific meetings.
The Drop-In Lab (316-B)
The newly-designed Language Center now contains a separate Drop-In Computer Lab. The new Drop-In Lab now contains six PC and 4 Mac desktop machines, as well as a faculty station complete with multi-standards DVD player and overhead projection. Additionally, the Drop-In Lab now contains a large, wired conference table where visitors can plug in their laptops as they work. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Instructional Lab (316-A)
The Language Center is now home to a 30-station Instructional Lab designed only for use by regularly scheduled language classes. This lab contains 30 PC stations and a faculty station, with multi-standards DVD player, presentation stand, a data projector and a SMART Board.
