Atom Builder Activities

Main Objective:

Students will:

-Examine the composition of atoms and placement of subatomic particles.

-Build isotopes of various common atoms.

Simulation:

Use the Explore Guide to conduct the following investigations.

1.) Build a simple atom from electrons, protons, and neutrons.

2.) Use the periodic table to build the atom that your pair has been assigned. (ex: Carbon)

3.) Change the number of neutrons in your atom to create a common isoptope. (ex: Carbon14)

Hands-on Experiment:

Use the periodic table to recreate images of your atom. Take turns in your group adding particles and naming the elements.
