In the experiment below, move points $D$, $E$, and $F$. What do you
notice? What do you wonder?
As you have seen, the curves you observed in the experiment above arise as intersections of a right circular conic
surface and a plane which does not contain the vertex of that surface.
These will be discussed further in the sections that follow.
