Volunteer Information K-lab members find that it is crucial and necessary to give back to the CSUN and the surrounding communities. Because of that, members volunteer in different organizations throughout the year. Below, you will find a list of the volunteer opportunities we have participated in and how to contact the organization directly if you wish to do so.
The following information is offered at http://www.autismspeaks.org/ Autism Speaks About the organization: “Autism Speaks’ goal is to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders. They are dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder. We are committed to raising the funds necessary to support these goals.” “Autism Speaks aims to bring the autism community together as one strong voice to urge the government and private sector to listen to our concerns and take action to address this urgent global health crisis. It is our firm belief that, working together, we will find the missing pieces of the puzzle.”
Volunteering: Walk Now for Autism Every year in the early spring, Autism Speaks holds an annual fundraiser where participants raise a minimum of $200. In addition, they take part of a 5k walk around the Pasadena Rose Bowl in hopes of creating a stronger community that creates awareness. K-Lab has participated in previous years.
The following information is offered at http://www.lafh.org/about.html Los Angeles Family Housing/Valley Shelter (LAFH) About the organization: “LAFH’s mission is to help families transition out of homelessness and poverty through a continuum of housing enriched with supportive services. LAFH was founded in 1983 to help homeless families and individuals rebuild their lives through an integrated system of housing and supportive services. In total we own and operate 21 properties, including three homeless shelters and 18 permanent rental properties. LAFH served more than 2,500 people living in poverty this past year through its multiple housing and supportive service programs, and has served over 100,000 people since its inception.”
