(Freedman and Montgomery, 1994, p.40)  |   This part of the presentation will be about parent involvement programs that have workedI at the secondary level. EXAMPLE: In Sacramento s school district, a  Parent training and assist Center was established& focusing on literacy, parenting and life skills (as)the focus of the center. (Freedman and Montgomery, 1994, p.41-42) R   6 Types of Involvement  Parenting, Communicating, Volunteering, Learning at Home, Decision Making, and Collaborating with the Community. (According to Sanders article in the Middle School Journal) Sanders talks about two middle schools that used these six types:       Southbend Middle School hired two of its volunteers as attendance monitors, (who)work with students, teachers, and especially families to help improve student attendance. (Sanders,1999,p.36) Southbend also did a  Get to Know the Principal teas, to  ..send a clear message about its desire to have direct, personal, and productive communications with their families. (Sanders,1999,p.37)6          Harbortown Middle School&  To help parents develop skills that they can use to improve their& opportunities for their children, the school has a computer class every Tuesday. (Sanders,1999,p.36-37) Harbortown,  In addition to inviting parents to theschool& the school regularly uses its telecommunications system. (Sanders,1999,p.37)B     &   N  Learning at Home Involvement   & Southbend does not have well-developed activities.Harbortown& has been able to implement a successful activity to assist families in monitoring their children s homework. The school has established a homework telephone line. (Sanders, 1999,p.38)6   (     Decision Making Involvement   Southbend and Harbortown have parent representatives on their school improvement teams& but would like to re-establish strong parent-teacher organizations to encourage more family involvement in school decision making.
