Syllabus

Welcome to the CS 430 web page! Here you'll encounter engaging ideas, activities, community events, and opportunities to explore Latino culture pertinent to the Chicano/Mexicano child. We will study the powerful cultural, influences on the daily lives of Latino children and adolescents. Emphasis will be on Latino communities, its families, their cultural practices, social experiences, and political/historical realities within California.

 

Nine specific themes will be addressed: Los Latinos, La Educacion Bilingue, La Vida Migrante, La Familia, La Religion, Las Ceremonias y Celebraciones, La Medicina, Las Bellas Artes y La Literatura Infantil.

Using a constructivist approach to teaching and learning, the goals of CS 430: The Chicano Child, are to:

  • assist you in constructing pertinent cultural knowledge of Chicano/Mexicano students.
  • build an awareness of contemporary issues related to language and culture which impact both societal and schooling contexts.
  • help you make connections to students, their families, and communities.
