Dr. Sides' primary research interest is the nature and transformation of daily life in American cities -- and in Los Angeles and San Francisco in particular -- in the 20th and 21st centuries. His first book, L.A. City Limits, explored the history of the Los Angeles African American community. Currently, he is writing a book about the impact of the sexual revolution on San Francisco. Among other topics, he is analyzing the ways in which new spectacles of sexuality challenged longtime urbanites, local politicians, religious leaders and city planners between the 1960s and the 1980s.
