Conclusion
Unfortunately, most people and
researchers that examine the status of Sarracenia
tend to agree that the future outlooks for the plants do not look good.
However, with increased effort, education, and awareness, there may still be a chance
to conserve them. It is important to stress how critical wetlands are to
biodiversity as they hold tremendous amounts of diversity via their unique
abiotic attributes. Sarracenia are
just one example of a rare type of plant that evolved in wetland areas. It is
fascinating to imagine what other types of flora and fauna occupy these
habitats on a global scale. It is clear, though, that if Sarracenia are susceptible to harm from human activity, then other
species most certainly are also affected. Personally, I think Sarracenia are marvelous organisms as
they have exceptional natural beauty and because they are a great example of
what evolution is capable of producing. I believe these plants should be
protected and I personally do everything I can do to aid their conservation
including some of the methods described in the solutions page. In the end, it
is up to us to make a difference as we are the source of the problem.
