Car Tuning is Surgery

Car tuning can be done at two levels. Either you can just modify the exteriors of the car and change its looks or you can also modify the internal working and change its performance drastically.  Car enthusiasts toy with every part of the car to get that special look and feel and performance. To satisfy themselves, car owners modify lights, windshields, sound systems, tires and even the poor exhaust pipe. Often owners sacrifice performance in doing so. For instance, often you will get lesser mileage after these exterior changes.

Internally car owners toy with the gear boxes, fuel transmission mechanism, braking systems and even engines. Some enthusiasts even go as far as replacing the entire engine.

R Sports Cars and NFS Tuning have some information about the kind of vehicles that can be modified and the legal constraints of car tuning.

6 car performance enhancers

Experts recommend various ways to enhance the performance of a car. Some of the common ways are as follows -

1. Maintain clean fuel filters
If your car doesn’t start immediately, then there is something definitely wrong in the car. Most common chance is a dirty filled fuel filter. Many a times that there dirt gathers in the fuel filter. Clean your filter and the problem would be mostly gone.

2. Maintain clean Air Filter
Automobile engines require air for combustion. The air is filtered by the air filters. If the air filters itself are dirty, then engine efficiency is adversely impacted. This ultimately hurts the car performance.

3. Spark plugs and Wires
Spark plugs are a critical component of any automobile. They might get rusted due to exposure to water. A faulty spark plug is one of the common reason for more fuel consumption. Hence, keep the spark plug and the connecting wires clean all the times.

4. Valves
Valves control the flow of gasoline to the engine. A leaky valve results in leakage of gas. If you see drops of gasoline on the engine or on the ground right below your car, then get the valve replaced. Often people ignore these thinking what difference does couple of drops of gas make? But if you observe your car early morning (provided the car has been standing the previous night), you will find a small pool of gasoline on ground. Small drops make an ocean is right to certain extent here.

5. Check for fluids
Various type of oils and gels are used for smooth functioning of car. Of these the brake oil and engine oil are very important. Change these oils regularly. Also keep various parts well greased.

6. Check battery condition
Check the level of battery regularly. People often forget to check this. It ultimately damages your battery. A damaged battery gives your car starting problems. Also various lights and the horn can get impacted.

The most ideal way to keep your car in perfect condition is to get it regularly serviced by the authorized service station. Also if you know some good mechanic, get your car regularly checked by him/her. If you are returning from a long journey, then get this check up done as soon as possible. Similarly, before starting the long journey, check the above 6 points. It will smoothen your journey and give you no car related hassles.

You can’t fit any engine in your car. There are legal guidelines which will restrict you doing so. So before you think of modifying the internal parts of your car, do consult some well experienced car owner or mechanic.
