Video Project
An Introduction to Sign Language for Elementary Students
This project was a collaboration between Jonathan Abrams and Julian Inchaurregui. Our goal was to produce a video presentation for the introduction of sign language to elementary school students. Jonathan's concept for the video was to use a hand as the actor and it's shadow as the letters to be learned. We developed the concept of using a stage as a backdrop with video and still picture popups. I worked on the sound to articulate the letters and the words used as the examples. Jonathan's main focus was on the hand acting and signing, which also included video taping and later chroma keying for compositing.
We collaborated on several occasions in person, by phone, email, and later traveling to each others homes. The project proved to be very challenging as we did a lot of the work independently then brought it together. One major challenge was software version incompatibility. However, because we had a strong concept from the beginning, we were able to adapt and make changes. Overall we both worked on titling, compositing, chroma-keying, audio editing, and rendering.
