SED 525MA/L
Assessment
Analysis Assignment Due
April 20, 2009
The
purpose of this assignment is for you to learn one method for analyzing assessment data
for a class and to use that analysis to plan for further instruction and
intervention. You will use the
tests and student responses from the March 23 session of SED 525MA/L, and you
may use or
revise any information generated in whole-class or small-group discussions
from that session. This assignment
asks you to justify and build on that information. Many of the requirements come directly from the PACT
Teaching Event.
Please
submit a word-processed document with these parts (please use a heading for
each part):
1) A response grid showing each studentŐs
responses to each test item, with the items clustered by
concept/skill/standard. Please include
a key or footnotes to explain any symbols or abbreviations.
2) A whole-class performance-summary
grid, showing the percents or numbers of students performing at each of 3
performance levels for each concept/skill/standard. Accompany this with a narrative explaining your decision rules
for rating a student at each level for each concept, skill, or standard (i.e.,
what specific test performances translate to what level).
3) A description (about 1
page) of what these two grids tell you about the learning of the class as a whole. Discuss what most students appear to
understand well and any misunderstandings, confusion, or needs (including a
need for greater challenge) that are apparent for some or most students. Cite evidence from the grids to support
your analysis. You may also use
examples from individual studentsŐ tests for illustration.
4) A 1-2 paragraph
description of what Student BŐs test reveals about his understandings,
misunderstandings, skill mastery, and knowledge gaps. Cite evidence from his test to support your analysis. Then, in a third paragraph, describe
the written and/or verbal feedback you would give him, regarding his
performance on the test, to support his further learning and address his
individual needs. Repeat this
process for Student C.
5) A description (about 1
page) of your recommended next steps for instruction for this class, based on student
performance on this test. If
different, also describe any individualized interventions for Students B and
C. Next steps and interventions
may include specific instructional activities or other forms of re-teaching to
support or extend continued learning of the concepts, skills, and
standards. Explain how these next
steps follow from your analysis of the test data. Cite readings from SED 525MA/L or other credential coursework to
justify these steps.

You have
decided to overhaul the way you assess your students in the coming school
year. You plan to implement an
assessment system that aligns with the recommendations of the NCTM, Tsuruda, and Wiggins & McTighe. Write a letter to the parents of your
students that describes how the new assessment system will look, gives some
examples, and explains the advantages of this new system.
Also:
á
Add
notes about Tsurda in your Author Notebook
o TsurudaŐs main point (1-3 sentences)
o How his ideas could be applied to the
math classroom (for lesson planning, assessment, task design, interactions with
studentsÉ)
