Gender, Globalization, and Democratization

Current Research Projects

The Research Programme currently has five major research projects: 1) Women and Leadership around the World; 2) Sexual Trafficking and Human Security; 3) Gender and Migration; 4) Women, Democratization and Globalization in North America; and 5) Gender and Economic Policymaking. Other scholars from around the world who are not members of the Research Programme are also working on these projects. The Research Programme welcomes the interest and participation of scholars who would like to learn more or possibly join the work of some of these research projects. Some projects are more open to participation than others. The email addresses of all members are listed under Organization, Governance, and Membership on this website.

  1. Women and Leadership around the World is a project headed by Dr. Gunnel Gustafsson of Sweden. Also participating are Dr Grace Bantebya Kyomuhendo, of Uganda, Dr. Jane Bayes of the US, Dr. Mary Hawkesworth of the US, Dr. Monique Leyenaar of the Netherlands, Dr Marian Simms of New Zealand, and Dr. Yi Zhaoyin of China.
  2. Sexual Trafficking and Human Security is a project organized by Dr. Kinohide Mushakoji of Japan, Dr. Seiko Hanochi of Japan , and Dr. Bang Soon Yoon of the US and Korea.
  3. Gender and Migration is a project organized by Dr. Laura Gonzalez of Mexico and the US and Dr. Jane Bayes of the US.
  4. Women, Democratization and Globalization in North America Dr. Jane Bayes of the US, Dr. Patricia Begne of Mexico, Dr. Laura Gonzalez of Mexico and the US, Dr. Lois Harder of Canada, Dr. Mary Hawkesworth of the US, and Dr. Laura Macdonald of Canada have been working on this project for five years. The project will culminate in a book to be published by Palgrave in 2005.
  5. Gender, Globalization, and Economic Policymaking Dr. Brigitte Young of Germany will be leading a portion of a newly funded Network of Excellence involving 45 universities. The part she will be leading is the Gender in Political Economy (GIPE) segment within the larger Network of Excellence.
