Support for Teaching Excellence
Initiatives for Recruitment and Retention of a Diverse Faculty and Staff
Research Questions:
How has CSUN utilized "core resources" to support student success?
How are faculty and staff supported in achieving excellence and facilitating student success?
How does CSUN support the use of technology as it contributes to faculty, staff and student success?
Can we identify the concrete ways in which faculty and staff support for university success benefits both the institution and its students?
How can we build on what we have learned to strengthen faculty and staff involvement in activities supporting student success?
Proposed areas of focus include:
Learning through faculty and student research: students working with faculty on research projects, Student Service Centers' support for non-advising activities
Support for teaching excellence and innovation: CIELO (Faculty Development, On-line Education, Community Service-Learning), Beck grants, LCU mini-grants
Recruitment, retention and on-going education for faculty and staff: New Faculty Orientation, Faculty Retreat, faculty/staff housing, Educational Equity Committee report and the Provost's initiatives re underrepresented faculty, enhancement of physical environment; professional development seminars for chairs and administrators
Enhancing opportunities for staff development and involvement with student success: HR-sponsored seminars and workshops.
-
Generating external resources in support of faculty, student, and staff development: college grants officers, expansion of University Advancement efforts.
