COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES
The College of Humanities encourages departments, programs, and individual faculty, in collaboration with the Dean's office, to
pursue grant applications and development activities in support of the mission of the University, college, and
departments/programs, and for purposes of individual faculty development. The Dean's Office must be notified about all external
(private and public) grant applications and all development activities that involve the college and that originate from
departments, programs, and/or individual faculty. All external grant and contract proposals require the approval of the Dean.
Our aim is to optimize the likelihood of successful grant applications and development efforts.
IF YOU ARE PREPARING A GRANT APPLICATION/PROPOSAL, YOU MUST FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
1. Contact and notify the college grant writer (Josh Einhorn) that you intend to apply for an external grant or
to pursue fundraising or development opportunities. This notification should occur at the beginning of the application
process, when you first decide to apply for a grant. [email: joshua.einhorn@csun.edu extension: x6096] Josh can also
help you research funding opportunities.
2. If you are submitting a proposal to a private foundation or to a corporate giving program, the proposal must be
reviewed by Susan Andraus, Corporate and Foundation Relations Director. The goal of this review is to ensure that the
Univeristy is not submitting more than one proposal to a private funder at any given time without approval. A proposal
submission form is required.
3. If you are submitting a proposal to a public funding agency, the University's grant data form (GDF) must be
submitted to the Dean's office. The GDF requires signatures from the department chair, the Dean, and the Director of
Research and Sponsored Projects (Scott Perez). The GDF is used by the Univeristy for all proposals submitted to all
federal, state, and local public funding agencies. [email:scott.perez@csun.edu extension:x2901]
4. You must submit your grant application/proposal (private or public) to the Dean at least 10 days before the
proposal submission deadline in order to allow sufficient time for the Dean's review and approval. Submitted proposals
that do not leave sufficient time for the Dean's review will not be reviewed or approved, and consequently, without the
required signatures, they cannot be submitted under any circumstances.
