Q. What’s the GPA requirement for admission to the GE Honors Program?

A. First-Time Freshmen are invited to participate in the GE Honors Program on the basis of a high school GPA of 3.5. Continuing students at California State University, Northridge are invited to participate on the basis of an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher in work completed at the University.

Q. What are the requirements to qualify for Priority Registration?

A. Beginning in Spring 13, only students who meet the maintenance GPA requirement AND have a taken a GE Honors course within the last three semesters will receive priority registration. If your first semester in GE Honors was F11 or later, your maintenance CSUN GPA is a 3.3. If you entered the program prior to F11, your maintenance CSUN GPA is a 3.0. Only students who are active in the program--i.e. have taken classes within the last three semesters--will receive priority registration from now on.

For students entering the program before Fall 2011:

In such cases, normally at least nine units of GE Honors credit earned at CSUN will be required.

Business Honors Students: Business 280BH: Business Law I, a GE course in the CSUN Business Honors Program, may be applied toward the Certificate in GE Honors.

Students who have violated the Student Conduct Code through any confirmed act of academic dishonesty are not eligible for the GE Honors certificate.

Q. Do you offer GE Honors courses during Intersession, Summer Session, or through Extension?

A. Not at the present time.

Q. How many GE Honors courses do I have to take each semester?

A. We recommend enrolling in at least one honors GE course each semester. You should meet with the honors director to discuss your individual course plan.

Q. When I have completed the required 15 units for the program when do I receive my certificate?

A. You will receive your GE Honors certificate at the end of your graduating semester.

Q. Do I have to enroll in the GE Honors program to graduate with Honors?

A. You are not required to enroll in the GE Honors program to graduate with Honors. To graduate with Honors you must have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Q. If I have satisfied the required number of units for the GE Honors program, can I still enroll in additional GE Honors courses as they are offered each semester?

A. Sure. However, it would be a better idea to enroll in the upper division courses rather than the lower division courses. Incoming freshman will need those seats to enroll and fulfill their own requirements.

Q. What happens if I receive a grade of B- (minus) or lower in a GE Honors course(s)?

A. If you receive a grade of B- (minus) or lower in any GE Honors course, you will have to take an additional GE Honors course(s) to complete the program and receive the GE Honors certificate.

Q. What happens if my overall GPA falls below the required maintenance GPA? Can I still take GE Honors courses?

A. If your overall GPA falls below your required maintenance GPA, make an appointment to speak with the GE Honors Program Director immediately
