Q. What’s the GPA requirement for the GE Honors Program?
A. First-Time Freshmen are invited to participate in the GE Honors Program on the basis of a high school GPA of 3.5 or by the recommendation of high school faculty. Continuing students at California State University, Northridge are invited to participate on the basis of an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher in work completed at the University, or by the recommendation of University faculty and /or EOP Satellite Directors.
Q. How many units are required for the GE Honors Certificate?
A. The General Education Honors Certificate will be awarded to students who meet the following requirements:
1. Complete 15 units of GE Honors courses.
2. Receive a grade of B or better (3.0 GPA) in GE Honors courses.
3. Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 in all work completed at the University.
Transfer Students: Students who have transferred with course credits in honors from Community Colleges or other four-year institutions should consult with the Director concerning the application of those credits towards satisfying the requirements for the GE Honors Certificate. In such cases, normally at least nine units of GE Honors credit earned at CSUN will be required.
Business Honors Students: Business 280BH: Business Law I, a GE course in the CSUN Business Honors Program, may be applied toward the Certificate in GE Honors.
Q. Do you offer GE Honors courses during Intersession, Summer Session, or through Extension?
A. Not at the present time.
Q. How many GE Honors courses do I have to take each semester?
A. We recommend enrolling in at least one honors GE course each semester. You should meet with the honors director to discuss your individual course plan.
Q. When I have completed the required 15 units for the program when do I receive my certificate?
A. You will receive your GE Honors certificate at the end of your graduating semester. Please contact us at (818) 677-2969 during the semester that you’re graduating so we can prepare your certificate. You can request that your certificate be mailed to your home address, or you can arrange to pick it up at our office.
Q. Do I have to enroll in the GE Honors program to graduate with Honors?
A. You are not required to enroll in the GE Honors program to graduate with Honors. To graduate with Honors you must have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Q. If I have satisfied the required number of units for the GE Honors program, can I still enroll in additional GE Honors courses as they are offered each semester?
A. Sure. However, it would be a better idea to enroll in the upper division courses rather than the lower division courses. Incoming freshman will need those seats to enroll and fulfill their own requirements.
Q. What happens if I receive a grade of B- (minus) or lower in a GE Honors course(s)?
A. If you receive a grade of B- (minus) or lower in any GE Honors course, you will have to take an additional GE Honors course(s) to complete the program and receive the GE Honors certificate.
Q. What happens if my overall GPA falls below 3.0? Can I still take GE Honors courses?
A. If your overall GPA falls below 3.0, make an appointment to speak with the GE honors program Director immediately
