By linking websites and information you can be wise about how to fix your website to accommodate Blind people.
What are alt-tags? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt_attribute
So you checked out the link great. Alt-tags describe the images that people post on websites. For blind people who view the site if no alt-tag is placed it says image.
Examples: The first picture if you scroll over has no alt-tag but the second one does.
1) No Alt-Tag 2) Alt-Tag
I also found a video of Matt Cutts who works for Google and he explains the importance of alt Tags.
What programs do Blind people use to view (YES) view websites?
JAWS (Not the Movie) http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_products/software_jaws.asp
Here is a video of an actual Blind person using Jaws. Enjoy
Blind people can also read books. Looking beyond the internet Amazon has made this amazing product.
