Our aim is to foster discussion about the dialectic between self and Other,
with a particular focus on overcoming the obstacles and the challenges to
mutual understanding, empathy and solidarity. Various social categories,
such as gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, age, religion,
and both contemporary and historical approaches would be appropriate areas
to explore. How might we share each Other's struggle? What do the
disciplines tell us? What does community activism show us?
WE INVITE PROPOSALS for papers, workshops, panels, roundtable discussions,
and other forms of expression to be presented on Saturday, December 2.
Sessions will be 1 hour and 15 minutes long; individual paper presentations
will be limited to 15 minutes. Faculty, students, community members, and
alumni are encouraged to submit proposals.
Please submit five copies of a one-page abstract, accompanied by the
proposal form below, no later than OCTOBER 9, 1995. Registration materials
will follow. As this is a self-supporting conference, all participants must
register. (A limited number of scholarships for students is available.)
