Highlights 2000-2001
Emerging
Leaders was involved in several Homecoming activities this year
including, banner creation, "Yell like Hell" contest, the Matador
Olympics and the clubs fair. Furthermore, the club sponsored
a candidate for homecoming queen and created a colorful homecoming
T-shirt worn throughout homecoming and adding to our visibility
on campus.
The Emerging
Leaders encourages students to become involved and write columns
for the newsletter that is passed out to students throughout
the year. The newsletter is also accessible online for students
who wish to know what's going on with the program.
An exciting
and informative power-point slide show was created for the first
meeting. It included photos of past events and tons of important
information about the program. The Emerging Leaders hopes to
move the slide show to video for future use.
Community
service has always been important to Emerging Leaders! At the
end of last semester, Emerging Leaders hosted a day of leadership
for 7 middle schools and over 200 students were able to participate.
Collaborating with the Recreation Majors Association, the club
facilitated fun leadership games and activities for the middle
school students. This event was also the kickoff opening ceremony
for the kinesiology lawn, which included a speech by Dean Stutts
and a ribbon cutting ceremony. University Ambassadors also assisted
by giving guided tours for the students along with 1 to 2 mentors.
This year
the Emerging Leaders was able to give an introduction to massage
and massage therapy for students. Three Masseuses attended a
stress management workshop and provided 15 minute massages for
students.
