Public Transit Subsidy Change
Effective with the distribution of the transit passes for February 1996, the public
transit subsidy will change. Employee monthly transit passes will be subsidized
at 50%, up to a maximum subsidy of $60 a month. MTA Express Zone stamps,
previously excluded from subsidy, will now be included in the subsidized
amount. All other provisions of the public transit subsidy sponsored by the
Commuter Transportation Program will remain the same. A separate flyer will be
mailed to all program registrants and to all offices during the first week in
January.

NIGMS Initiative for Minority Students
The National Institute of General Medical Sciences has announced the
availability of funds for minority students majoring in biomedical sciences or in
medical, dental, or veterinary training who are interested in pursuing research
careers. The application deadline is Feb. 1.

NSF Teacher Enhancement Program
The National Science Foundation has announced the availability of funds for
universities to develop proposals to help seventh through twelfth grade teachers
make significant progress in reaching national goals for teaching math.
Proposals should focus on policy and practice.
The deadlines for preliminary applications are Jan. 3 and April 1; for full
proposals, March 2 and Sept. 2.

ERC Meeting
The next formal meeting of the Educational Resources Committee will take
place on Tues., Feb. 6, at 2 pm in President's Conference Room C. The meeting
scheduled for Dec. 19 has been canceled.

NSF Academic Infrastructure/Equipment Grants
The National Science Foundation is inviting proposals for development and
purchase of major state-of-the-art equipment for research and research training.
Awards support buying, upgrading, or developing equipment and improving
access to and increasing use of research training instrumentation by scientists
and students. The application deadline is Feb. 1

Payroll Warrants
Payroll warrants for the month of December will be issued to individuals on Fri.,
Dec. 29, between 8:30 am and noon at Cash Management in the Education
Administration Building in the Business/Education complex at Vincennes and
Etiwanda. A photo ID will be required to pick up the warrant. If you have
someone else pick up your check, you must provide them a note of authorization
for check pick-up and provide your social security number. A photo ID of the
authorized photo will also be required. Warrants not distributed on Dec. 29 will
be distributed to the departments as usual on Tue., Jan. 2.
