POLICY RE: CALENDAR OF PERSONNEL ACTIONS. At its May 18, 1995 meeting, the Faculty Senate voted to recommend approval of the proposed policy.
This policy will be forwarded to the Faculty Senate, to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and to the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate, and is effective at the beginning of the 1995-96 academic year.

Appendix A
1995-96 ACADEMIC YEAR CALENDAR OF PERSONNEL ACTIONS AND PROCEDURES
The following are deadline dates.
Note: All recommending agencies are reminded that Article 11.4 of the Faculty Bargaining Agreement requires that any material to be placed in a Personnel Action File must be provided to the affected faculty member at least five days prior to such placement. (5 working days)
Article 15.5 of the Faculty Bargaining Agreement is also relevant and is quoted in its entirety as follows:
At all levels of review, before recommendations are forwarded to a subsequent review level, faculty unit employees shall be given a copy of the recommendation and the written reasons therefore. The faculty unit employee may submit a rebuttal statement or response in writing and/or request a meeting be held to discuss the recommendation within five (5 working days)
- 1. August 28 -- The President, via the University Information Bulletin, shall announce promotions effective a the beginning of the 1995-96 academic year.
- 2. September 6 -- First meeting of the Personnel Planning and Review Committee.
- 3. September 15 or earlier -- Election of School Personnel Committee for the 1995-96 academic year with selection of chairs as soon as possible thereafter.
- 4. September 29 or earlier -- Election of Department Personnel Committees for the 1995-96 academic year.
- 5. October 6 -- Last Day for submission of applications for sabbatical leave for the 1006-97 academic year.
- 6. October 20 or earlier -- Departments forward all sabbatical leave applications, accompanied by written evaluations, to School Personnel Committees.
- 7. December 1 or earlier -- School Personnel Committees shall forward recommendations on sabbatical leave applications to the School Dean.
- 8. January 12 or earlier -- The President shall notify all sabbatical leave applicants of the decisions on their proposal.
- 9. January 25 or earlier -- Department Personnel Committees begin deliberations on retention, tenure, and promotion on those faculty to whom notice regarding their status in the next academic year must be given by the President or a designee by May 31, 1996.
- 10. February 9 or earlier -- Department Chairs and Department Personnel Committees shall make available to the candidates their recommendations on promotion and on those faculty to whom notice regarding their status in the next academic year must be given by the President or a designee by May 31, 1996. Copies of the letters are not forwarded to the other recommending agencies until February 16 or 5 working days after the original letter is forwarded.
- 11. February 16 or earlier -- Department Chairs shall forward to the Deans of their Schools their recommendations and those of their Department Personnel Committees on promotion and on those faculty to whom notice regarding their status in the next academic year must be give by the President or a designee by May 31, 1996. The Dean shall transmit the Department recommendations (including the results of final balloting) to the Chair of the School Personnel Committee.
- 12. March 8 or earlier -- The Dean and School Personnel Committee shall make available to the candidates their recommendations on promotion and on those faculty to whom notice regarding their status in the next academic year must be given by the President or a designee by May 31, 1996. Copies of the letters are not forwarded to the other recommending agencies until March 15 or 5 working days after the original letter is forwarded.
- 13. March 15 or earlier -- The Chair of the School Personnel Committee shall transmit the recommendations of the School Personnel Committee (including the results of final balloting) to the Dean. The Dean of each School shall forward to the President all recommendations on promotion and on those probationary faculty to whom notice regarding their status in the next academic year must be given by the President or a designee by May 31, 1996.
- 14. March 22 or earlier -- Faculty members not recommended for promotion, tenure, or retention may file an appeal with the Personnel Planning and Review Committee.
- 15. March 29 or earlier -- Faculty members who have filed an appeal must submit all materials supporting their appeal to the Personnel Planning and Review Committee.
- 16. April 5 or earlier -- Each Department shall submit to the School Personnel Committee for approval any revisions to its personnel procedures for the following academic year.
- 17. April 26 or earlier -- Each School Personnel Committee shall submit to the Personnel Planning and Review Committee any revisions to departmental procedures approved for the following academic year.
- 18. April 26 or earlier -- Each School Personnel Committee shall submit to the Personnel Planning and Review Committee for approval any revisions to its personnel procedures for the following academic year.
- 19. May 3 or earlier -- The Chair of the Personnel Planning and Review Committee shall make available to appellants the Committee's recommendation on promotion, retention, and tenure appeals.
- 20. May 10 or earlier -- Election of Personnel Planning and Review Committee members for the next academic year.
- 21. At the end of the academic year, each full-time Lecturer shall receive from the Department Chair a written evaluation of their performance for the year.
- 22. May 31 or earlier -- The President shall normally notify those faculty to be promoted effective for the 1996-97 academic year; also, the President or a designee will notify probationary faculty who have served more than two years whether the subsequent academic year is an additional probationary year or a first year of tenure or terminal notice year.
(1996-97 Academic Year)
- August 26 -- The President, via the University Information Bulletin shall announce promotions effective for the 1996-97 academic year.
- September 13 or earlier -- Election of School Personnel Committee for the 1996-97 academic year.
- September 27 or earlier -- Election of Department Personnel Committees for the 1996-97 academic year.
