CSUN Student Volunteers to Support Girl Scouts'
Sports Programs for Elementary School Children

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif.) - Cal State Northridge athletes and other student volunteers will gather to support the Girl Scouts as they hold a one-day event of sports and fun programs for three elementary schools in the San Fernando Valley on Saturday, June 12.

The event will take place at Pacoima Middle School at 9919 Laurel Canyon Blvd. Registration will begin from 8:30 a.m. and students are encouraged to arrive early.

Fifth- and sixth- grade school children from Beachy, Sharp and Vaughn Elementary Schools will have a day of fun sporting events as the culmination of an eight-week after-school program spearheaded by the Girl Scouts.

Fred Strache, CSUN Interim Vice President for Student Affairs, said CSUN athletes and other students will volunteer time to be with the children and impart what it is like to be a college athlete. The volunteers also will provide insight to what it means to be in school and the importance of a college education.

The program will highlight respect and teamwork with other students through teamwork activities. These will include soccer, softball, volleyball, kickball, parachute, frisbee throwing, tag, double dutch jump rope and other team building activities.

For more information about the event, call the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs at (818) 677-2391.
