More than 70 public and private middle and high school students from Pasadena to Calabasas will showcase what they have learned in the workshop in three plays and a "10-Minute Play Festival" that takes place over the course of four days written and produced by the students from July 21 through August 7.
This year's performances include a premier production of the classic children's book "Charlotte's Web". Performances are scheduled in the Campus Theatre for July 23 at 7 p.m.; July 24 at 11 a.m.; July 28 at 2 p.m.; July 30 at 2 p.m.; July 31 at 2 p.m.; Aug. 4 at 11 a.m.; Aug. 5 at 2 p.m.; Aug. 6 at 2 p.m.; and Aug. 7 at 11 a.m.
"Much Ado About Middle School" - a modern Shakespeare-inspired musical comedy that aims to capture the awkwardness and innocence of first love in Middle School - will be performed in the Little Theatre on July 28 at 7 p.m.; July 29 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; July 30 at 7 p.m.; July 31 at 2 p.m.; and Aug. 4-7 at 2 p.m.
The third play, "Anne Frank and Me," a poignant drama about the holocaust will confront the ignorance of young people. "What difference does it make?" asks one teenage character. "It's ancient history." The play delves into history that answers the question. Performances are scheduled on July 21 at 7 p.m.; July 22-24 at 2 p.m.; July 28-30 at 2 p.m.; July 30 at 7 p.m.; and July 31 at 2 p.m. in the Studio Theatre.
The "10-Minute Play Festival" will feature plays written by TADW students and will take place Aug. 4-7 at 7 p.m. in the Studio Theatre.
The workshop provides students an opportunity to learn how to write and create a play from the ground up. Students participate in every aspect of production - from costume and set design to directing, writing and performing.
Matinee and evening performances will be held in theatres in the CSUN Speech-Drama Building located on the southwest corner of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff Street.
Tickets can be purchase through the Associated Students ticket office at the Student Union for $5 each. Group rates and Saturday double features also are available.
