Cal State Northridge students will have the opportunity to do research within the Jewish community in the San Fernando Valley as the result of a $20,000 grant from the Zimmer Foundation recently awarded to the university.
Grant monies will fund the fall Jewish Communal Fieldwork Internship course that allows students to work in Jewish schools, synagogues, social welfare or political organizations.
"The Northridge campus is located in the second largest Jewish community in the United States," said Jody Myers, coordinator for the Jewish studies program.
"Jewish leaders are enthusiastic about the student interns because they recognize the need to develop professional support and lay involvement in Jewish communal agencies, as well as the importance of fostering good community relations."
Along with receiving hands-on experience and meeting needs within the Jewish community, students in the program also receive a $450 stipend as well as three units of academic credit.
Those interested in the program or for more information should call Terry Hatkoff at (818) 677-3007.
