The last time Cal State Northridge's team participated in the AIDS Walk, they took up a city block, setting the record as the largest university group in the event's history.
Coordinators this year say they hope to do the same and are inviting the community to join its faculty, staff, students and alumni for the 14th Annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles on Sunday, September 27.
The annual walk raised more than $3.2 million last year with more than 2,700 participants, including more than 850 from CSUN.
"This is also the largest fund-raiser of its kind in California," said Sue Melton, AIDS Walk event manager.
Monies from the annual walk go towards the AIDS Project Los Angeles, which is the largest AIDS service and advocacy organization in Southern California.
"For every dollar raised, eighty two cents went towards funding programs like AIDS education, the food bank and counseling," said Melton.
"We are encouraging all members of the community to participate," said Amy Reichbach, coordinator of the CSUN team. "Its an excellent way to show that CSUN cares and is actively involved in the fight against AIDS."
There is no fee to participate, but pre-registration is required. For more information, call Reichbach at (818) 677-3683.
