Week Showcases Children's Work

Who says children don't have what it takes to run a business, star in a drama production or even publish a newspaper or write a book?

An estimated 450 elementary school-aged children have done just this in the five-week 1998 Summer Academic Program offered at Cal State Northridge.

On Monday, July 27, the students enrolled in "Wall Street Kids" and "Who's the Boss" classes will present an International Market Place, a miniature society they've created in the summer program. The students, using basic economic principles learned in the course, will introduce their own currency which they will then use to buy and sell items they have made or collected from home, including jewelry, trading cards, books and food. This will take place on the north side of Sierra Hall from 9:45 a.m. to 10:25 a.m.

Students enrolled in English and journalism courses will display works, including poetry, a newspaper and books they have created at the "Authors Fair" on Thursday, July 30, from 12:10 a.m. to 12:45 a.m., in the Sierra Quad.

The week will culminate with a series of fairy tale and talent show performances on Friday, July 31, from 12:00 a.m. to 12:45 a.m. in Sierra Hall Room 205.

Sierra Hall and Quad are located on the west side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge
