CSUN Interns Get Hands-On Experience

Cal State Northridge's Community-Based Enterprise Education Program is offering students the opportunity to get hands-on internship experience working in a county government position.

The program began last year as a pilot project collaboration between CSUN's Career Center and Los Angeles County.

Approximately 60 students have participated in the program since its inception and worked in several county departments including health services, human resources, internal services, community and senior services, the coroner's office, parks and recreation, and public social services.

Students are not paid, but have the option of receiving academic credit for their internship. Some students have gone on to receive permanent positions within the departments where they interned said Sandi Silverman, CSUN's Internship Program Coordinator at the Career Center.

"Interns work totally hands-on or shadow working professionals," said Silverman. "That is the beauty of this program. Students walk away understanding how the departments in the county government work."

There are approximately 15 student interns working this summer. Positions are still open for the fall semester.

For more information, call Silverman at (818) 677-2387 or Michael Henry, at the Los Angeles County at (213) 974-2406.
