The tapestry begins with the opening on Sept. 26 of the musical "Quilters" and continues through May, 1998, with the Tony Award-winning play "Angels in America," the popular musical "The Wiz," Puccini's opera "La Boheme" and the drama "Roosters."
In addition to its season ticket offerings, the university will present the Humperdinck opera "Hansel and Gretel," the children's play "This is Not a Pipe Dream," and an evening of one-act plays, "Chekhov's Shorts."
"Quilters," a musical by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek, weaves together the lives of frontier women in hauntingly beautiful songs and stories. The production features actress and CSUN professor Maryellen Clemons in the lead role. Directed by Mia Truxaw, "Quilters" will be performed in the Little Theatre in the Speech-Drama Building on the southwest corner of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
The play dates are Sept. 26, 27, 28 and Oct. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Times are at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, 7 p.m. Wednesday, and 5 p.m. Sundays.
Tickets are available from Student Union Ticket Office Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by phone at (818) 677-2488. Tickets are also available at the door two hours prior to curtain.
