Last year, more than 25,000 people-including a record 650 from CSUN-raised more than $3.4 million for AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), Southern California's most comprehensive AIDS service, education and advocacy organization. The CSUN team raised more than $18,500.
Last year's CSUN team was the largest in the event's history, and university officials are hoping to increase the size of its team at this year's walk.
"The university is committed to community service and the fight against AIDS," said Amy Reichbach, coordinator of the CSUN team. "This event is an inspiring reminder of our ability to come together to pursue an important goal. The more of us out there, hopefully the louder the message will be."
Proceeds from the AIDS Walk will be used to continue providing basic, life-sustaining services to Los Angeles county men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS. Founded in 1982, APLA also works to reduce the incidence of HIV through risk-education and training programs.
There is no fee to participate in the AIDS Walk, but pre-registration is required. For more information and registration forms, contact Amy Reichbach at (818) 677-3686.
