Adele Scheele, director of The Career Center at Cal State Northridge, says that as college costs continue to rise and the job market continues to become more and more competitive, even hard-working students are often ill-prepared for the real work.
In her new book, "The 'Good' Student Trap," Scheele offers tips to students on how to jump start their careers while they are still in college.
"The prepared student of today is the successful and employed graduate of tomorrow," Scheele says. "It is imperative that students get the most out of their college education-namely, a successful career-but many students either have no clue how or are headed in the wrong direction."
"The 'Good' Student Trap," published by Kaplan/Simon & Schuster, shows students how to prepare for today's competitive job market by turning classroom lessons into marketable skills, summer jobs into valuable networking experiences and every semester into a learning experience.
Among the issues Scheele offers advice on are:
In addition to her work at CSUN, Scheele is an internationally recognized career strategist and consultant on change management.
