Los Angeles Artist Explores Science, Religion in CSUN Show

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Aug. 4, 2004) - Los Angeles artist Julie Hughes explores the inadequacies of science and religion in explaining basic human nature in her new exhibition, "Bad Science, Good Lookin'," opening on Friday, Aug. 27, at Cal State Northridge's West Gallery.

Using imagery from medical illustrations, decorative patterns, Christianity, aerial photography and children's fairy tales, Hughes' work presents a theatrical environment in which viewers can interact-part Alice in Wonderland and part Gray's Anatomy.

Hughes, who has a master of fine arts degree from Cal State Northridge, is a member of the Los Angeles Art Association and has participated in shows at various galleries throughout Los Angeles. She is a co-founder of the CSUN Painting Guild.

The show runs for one week only, closing Friday, Sept. 2. An opening reception will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in Aug. 27.

Gallery hours are from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

For more information about the exhibit, call Cal State Northridge's Art Galleries at (818) 677-2156 or visit their Web site at www.csun.edu/artgalleries/.
